BIG CHANGE: Saying Goodbye to the Cargo Conversion
Every adventure has its chapters, and this past month we closed one that’s been a big part of ours. The little enclosed trailer that Tim converted with his own two hands—the one that carried us through road trips, rainy nights, and countless campground setups—has officially rolled off to a new owner.
We knew this day would come, but it still felt a little strange watching it pull away. That trailer was more than plywood and paint—it was our first real leap into this style of travel. Tim poured hours into building it out, from the storage cubbies to the cozy sleeping setup. It was simple, lightweight, and got us on the road without breaking the bank. And honestly? It taught us so much about how we camp, what we need, and (maybe more importantly) what we don’t.
But as trips got longer and our packing lists grew (Shibas require more “essentials” than you’d think), we realized it was time for something with a little more comfort built in. The cargo trailer was great for quick weekend getaways, but hauling out chairs, rearranging bins, and dodging the rain during setup started to lose its charm. Plus, Monty and Gadget were subtly hinting they’d prefer a bit more air conditioning and less “glamping hustle.”
So after a lot of conversations, a little bit of online shopping, and more than one campground walkthrough, we decided—it’s time for a traditional travel trailer. We’re talking built-in kitchen, real bathroom, proper dinette, and enough storage so Tim doesn’t have to play “trailer Tetris” every time we pack up.
The best part? We’ll still have that sense of freedom that got us hooked in the first place, but with a setup that gets us relaxing faster and spending less time unpacking in the rain.
It’s a big change, but we’re excited for this new chapter. The enclosed trailer gave us our start—and now, the travel trailer will take us further.
More soon from the road—
Tim, Kristen, Monty & Gadget 🐾🐾
P.S. If you see us pulling into a campground with a shiny new setup, stop by and say hello—Monty will bark once, Gadget will sniff twice, and we’ll probably offer you a cold drink.
